fingerprint Biography

Antonio Díaz Espejo is a Doctor in Biology, and did his PhD at IRNAS-CSIC (Seville) on using mechanistic models of CO2 and H2O fluxes at the leaf and canopy level in olive trees, always oriented to the application of deficit irrigation strategies. Then he was awarded a Marie-Curie Fellowship in the Department of Soil Science at the University of Reading in UK where he continued learning about the theory of Soil Vegetation Atmosphere Transfer models, as well as about techniques to test these models in the framework of a project for the European Space Agency (ESA). Upon his return to IRNAS-CSIC, he obtained a permanent position as Tenured Scientist at CSIC. During the last ten years, he has been working on understanding the effect of water stress on photosynthesis and growth limitation in crops, especially fruit trees. His main goal is to find a rational implementation of the deficit irrigation strategy based on robust ecophysiological knowledge.
