fingerprint Biography

Rubn Vicente is Principal Investigator at ITQB NOVA, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He completed his PhD at the IRNASA-CSIC (Spain), where he investigated the physiological, biochemical and molecular responses of durum wheat plants grown in hydroponic cultures and field experiments to future Climate Change scenario. During his postdoc at the University of Barcelona (Spain), he gained experience in a wide range of field phenotyping techniques at ground and aerial level and integrated them with plant metabolism to predict yield parameters and identify new avenues for crop improvement. As postdoc at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology (Germany), he focused on the regulation of photosynthetic carbon assimilation by trehalose metabolism. From 2020, Rubn Vicente is the head of the Plant Ecophysiology and Metabolism lab at ITQB NOVA (Portugal). His main interests are (i) the understanding of plant responses to abiotic stresses under the effects of future climate change scenario, (ii) the coordination of carbon and nitrogen metabolism for plant growth and response to the environment (source-sink dynamics during the grain filling), and (iii) the identification of new key traits for crop improvement that consider the future food demands and environmental sustainability by the integration of field phenotyping and plant metabolism techniques.
